The Hinesight Group continues our interview series called "HIGH 5" with our very own Brett Linn.

How did your relationship with Hinesight begin?

RJ and I have worked together in the past and we had been looking to find a way to collaborate. He came across a company that had a need for a strategic business mind who had experience in finance, accounting, business strategy, and sales.  I jumped at the opportunity to work with RJ on this project and haven’t looked back!

From a Finance and Accounting perspective, what do small businesses need to consider, as their highest priorities.

In no particular order:

  1. Ensure your bookkeeping in is order
    1. Ensures you can file taxes accurately and on-time
    2. Gives you an easy way to see performance
    3. If you choose to sell, you don’t need to spend time and money to make it digestible
  2. Revenue and Profit
    1. Ideal customer profile can help maximize revenue and profit
    2. Does your pricing make sense?
  3. Costs
    1. Are you analyzing this frequently as it relates to revenue?

The Hinesight Group integrates qualitative leadership skills and experience with empirical data  ...how does that combination assist your clients?  

Data is extremely valuable and very dangerous. You need to ask the right questions to make sure the results are driving the correct outcomes.  What we do at The Hinesight is use our experience to ask the right questions.  We look at your goals for the entire organization and see how it can translate into day-to-day activity.  This strategic alignment allows us to use data to measure these outcomes.  When data is used in this manner, it can answer the right questions.

KPI's have become the watchword for business today ..what exactly is a KPI and what essential areas of the business should be included?

Who doesn’t love a good acronym?  KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator.  KPI’s can relate to Finance & Accounting, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, etc. but as a small business owner you need to pay attention to what makes/costs your business money. At The Hinesight we review your processes from start to finish, understand your business, and design the KPIs from this process to make it relevant to you. Standard KPIs are great but not always applicable.

Finally, what areas of growth do you see for The Hinesight Group as businesses adapt to ever changing financial and market conditions?

Change is gonna come, that is evident. Right now AI is everywhere and your company needs to utilize it but you need to do so responsibly.  AI is still learning and therefore you must not solely rely on its output.

At The Hinesight we will never shy away from new tools but it is not what makes us special. What makes us special is our desire to help, ask questions that might be uncomfortable but being vulnerable is what will allow for the most impactful change.
